Ray is a dynamic producerwho has worked for 30 years in the television industry. Over his long career in the Los Angeles media market, Bell has worked for three of the major networks, and is a two-time Emmy Award winning producer for sports and features with KCBS television.
Like Harris, Ray is a native of Berkeley, with a background in sports. He was a star football player for the UCLA Bruins 1976 Rose Bowl championshp team and transitioned from sports to media. Bell was the executive producer of Inside Pitch, a syndicated celebrity sports show for FOX Sports International, and continues to keep his hands on the pulse of the professional sports landscape.
Bell and Harris have worked closely together on several documentary projects and have teamed up to produce CALLED UP: The Emmett Ashford Story, about Major League Baseball's first African American umpire who broke into American League in 1966. The documentary is slated for airings on PBS stations around the country in 2024.
Brian Spencer, Producer
Brian’s multi-dimensional professional background includes his ongoing work as an educational consultant who has specialized in the development and implementation of a variety of innovative higher education programs throughout Northern California.
Spencer is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley, and teamed up with Doug Harris in the 1990s to form Athletes for Peace’s Berkeley nonprofit organization into a United Nations NGO member. He worked closely in the development of several organization programs that included: NCAA Division I exhibition basketball team, Berkeley Latenight Program, Academics & Sports Mentorship, and assisted Harris in developing AUP Media. Brian has served as a research fellow with the California State Department for Education and is an associate with the United College Action Network.
Spencer currently serves as the co-producer for All American: The Walter Gordon Story, where he brings his strength and experience to the team's work in the areas of research, pre-production, project development, fundraising, and coordination with various associations and groups. He is also heading the efforts in developing the documentary’s educational curriculum that will accompany the film into high school classrooms through the PBS LearningMedia program.
Nick Douglas, Co-Producer
Nick Douglas is the author of Finding Octave: The Untold History of Two
Creole Families and Slavery in Louisiana, and has teamed up with filmmaker Doug Harris to produce an exciting feature-length documentary about his Creole family's history. Douglas is serving as co-producer of the film titled ReConnect: The Untold History of Jazz about his Creole family's role in the creation of the American music genre that ultimately became known as jazz.
After laying the ground work for the documentary project rooted in New orleans, Louisiana, Nick has worked to assemble a strong cast of historians and musical experts to help tell this incredible story of his Creole family members who are documented as being at the forefront of the inception of jazz in the late 19th century. The story is centered around his distant relatives Louis and Lorenzo Tio who migrated from Mexico to New Orleans and became professional musicians who taught a list of the greatest jazz clarinetists of all time that includes Sidney Bechet, Johnny Dodds, Omer Simeon, Barney Bigard, and Alphonse Picou.
Angela Cox, Associate Producer
Angela's working relationship with filmmaker Doug Harris dates back to 2011 when the two worked together on the award winning "An Exploration of Our History" documentary series, where she coordinated the research for the film projects through her work with the Richmond Public Library.
Cox also served as the associate producer for the acclaimed 2016 PBS documentary "FAIR LEGISLATION" . In addition to her role as an associate producer, Angela has also worked closely with producer/director Doug Harris to develop and produce a number of short films and community-based educational videos centered around the promotion of higher education and programs for the teen population in Richmond, California.
Douglas Harris jr, Cinematographer
Douglas teamed up with his father (Doug Harris) in 2009 as a production assistant for the Emmy nominated documentary OUT: The Glenn Burke Story. In 2014, he worked his way up the production ladder, teaming up to form the Harris filmmaking team where he served as cinematographer for the acclaimed PBS documentary FAIR LEGIGISLATION.
In 2017, he filmed UZIKEE: Washington DC's Ancestral Sculptor, performed camera work on the recent PBS documentary All American: The Walter Gordon Story. Douglas is currently a student at Consumnes River Collge in Sacramento, and also worked behind the camera on the production of CALLED UP: The Emmett Ashford Story, while also assisting with post production for other dougharrismedia.com projects.
Ocea Savage, Music Composer
Ocea is a Berkeley native and multi-skilled music composer/arranger who has scored numerous independent documentaries with filmmaker Doug Harris throughout his celebrated musical career. His creative ability to cross musical genres and compose original soundtracks possess added value to his documentary film work.
Savage has worked closely with Harris to bring his unique style and sound to a lineup of Harris' films that have included: An Exploration of Our History, Tournament of Champions, Basketball Guru, and Uzikee to name just a few.
